The Children's Heart Foundation was established in 1996 by Betsy and Steve Peterson to honor the memory of their son, Sam, who died from congenital heart disease at age eight. Today, the Foundation is a national organization with local chapters and a network of volunteers working to eradicate congenital heart disease as America's number one birth defect. In January of 2008, Matt and Amy Pierce founded the Ohio Chapter of the Children's Heart Foundation to help raise awareness of this deadly disease in the State of Ohio. Matt and Amy's daughter, Rhiannon, is a shining example of the possibilities and progress that has been made over the last decade in the field of congenital heart defects. She was born in January of 2000 with a life threatening CHD that required immediate surgery. 3 open heart surgeries later, she is leading a normal life without restrictions or medications. Matt and Amy believe that, although their daughter is an example of hope to many parents and families across the country, much more needs to be done. Please join them on their mission.
